Nasal nitric oxide (nNO)

Nitric oxide produced continuously in the paranasal sinuses and inhaled with nasal breathing.

Also known as: nNO, Nasal NO

nNO improves ventilation-perfusion matching and oxygen uptake in the lungs. It is present only with nasal inhalation; mouth breathing bypasses it entirely. This is one of the reasons nasal breathing outperforms mouth breathing at rest and during moderate exertion.
